I'm already enrolled in the iTunes Affiliate Program. Am I receiving commissions on all my sales?

Not necessarily. There are 45 separate iTunes, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store Affiliate Programs and each one is for a specific country. Participation in one of these programs will result in commissions from only that store in that country. Your international traffic will typically receive an error and is then redirected to their native store. If this happens, you will not be commissioned on any of those sales.

What does GeoRiot do?

The GeoRiot service allows you to monetize on international traffic by combining multiple affiliate accounts. GeoRiot helps you earn commissions on all of them simultaneously by providing a translation engine for your iTunes, iBookstore, and App Store deep links. The service ensures that international traffic arrives at an appropriate page in the correct store with the proper affiliate tracking, instead of receiving an error stating that the item they are looking for doesn't exist.

Why should I use GeoRiot?

GeoRiot provides three advantages over using a single affiliate program: First, the service maximizes your potential revenue from international traffic. Second, the service provides a seamless user experience by sending your traffic to the most relevant destination in the correct store instead of returning an error. Third, the GeoRiot Dashboard provides unique reporting not avaialbe through the affiliate networks.

Is my traffic source a good candidate for the GeoRiot service?

Let's find out. Any app, website, campaign, tweet, facebook post, etc.. affiliate link that sees international traffic is likely a good candidate, but further investigation is required as visiting and clicking traffic can differ. We recommend enrolling in the GeoRiot service to get an accurate picture of which countries generate clicks to iTunes and see what your potential increase in commissions could be. Clients can leave the service at anytime for any reason.

How can I get started using GeoRiot?

Getting started with the GeoRiot service takes three simple steps:

  • Click on the Registration form and send us your basic info. We'll get your account set up and send you back a user name/password and a customized base GeoRiot URL.
  • Update your existing affiliate links with the customized URL to instantly empower them.
  • Start signing up for the other iTunes Affiliate programs worldwide. Learn more about signing up for the different programs.

As soon as your site or app is using your new GeoRiot link you can add and manage additional affiliate programs and view international clicking statistics from the dashboard.

What does GeoRiot do for my international traffic?

First, GeoRiot gives you the possibility to monetize on international traffic coming from any one of the 36 countries with an iTunes Affiliate Program. Second, and equally important, the GeoRiot service provides a translation engine for your iTunes, iBookstore and App Store deep links. This ensures that international traffic arrives at the appropriate page in the correct store, instead of receiving an error message stating that the item they are looking for doesn't exist.

What happens to international traffic when they click on a non-GeoRiot enabled affiliate link?

Typically the user is redirected to iTunes and immediately shown an error stating that the item they've request is not available in their store. If the user clicks okay and is taken to the correct iTunes store they won't be able to purchase (because iTunes requires a credit card with a billing address in that country). If they stay in their store any purchases they make won't be commissioned.

Is this legal? Is iTunes okay with this?

While neither Apple, or iTunes, will publicly endorse a third party service, we work with them regularly in order to make the GeoRiot service as robust as possible. The GeoRiot service fully complies with each affiliate network's Terms and Conditions as well as with those published by iTunes for the affiliate program.

When I sign up for GeoRiot do I instantly start earning more money?

Enrollment in GeoRiot alone will not increase your profits. To maximize your earnings you need to have active accounts within the multiple iTunes Affiliate Programs worldwide. The GeoRiot service combines these multiple accounts and allows you to use them simultaneously thus allowing you to earn more money.

Why would I sign up with GeoRiot before I have multiple iTunes Affiliate program accounts?

First, integrating the GeoRiot service with even a single account can instantly empower your affiliate links to provide a seamless user experience for international traffic. Second, using the GeoRiot service provides valuable insight into clicking behavior so that you can focus your efforts on the programs that are most likely net you extra revenue. This makes signing up for accounts as efficient as possible.

Can I use the GeoRiot service before I am accepted in multiple iTunes Affiliate Program?

Yes, this can actually be advantageous by helping direct your efforts toward applying for specific country's affiliate programs to quickly maximize revenue. However, active iTunes affiliate accounts are necessary to start earning commissions.

How do I sign up for additional programs?

To get into an affiliate program, you first sign up with the appropriate affiliate network. This includes LinkShare for the affiliate programs in US, Canada, and Mexico, LinkShare Japan for the program in Japan, DGM Performance for the Australia and New Zealand programs and TradeDoubler for 39 different programs (29 in Europe, plus 10 in Latin America).

After being accepted into the affiliate network, use their dashboard to sign up for the iTunes, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store Affiliate programs for the countries that are supported.

TradeDoubler allows you to use a single affiliate program account for all European programs and a single affiliate program for 9 of the 10 Latin American programs. The exception is that Brazil cannot be combined with the other Latin American countries.

Please note that the Japan program requires a local bank account and Japanese language based site or app to apply.

Does the Canadian affiliate program include the App Store?

No, the Canadian affiliate program only commissions on sales of music, movies, TV episodes and shows, and audiobooks. The Canadian program does not commission on sales of iOS apps, Mac Apps or ebooks from the iBookstore.

Do I need to sign up for every country in TradeDoubler?

No, it's not necessary to sign up for every country/program available in Europe and Latin America, through TradeDoubler, to earn commissions in all of the 39 countries. In fact, a single account in Europe will allow you to earn commissions on any of the 29 storefronts in Europe. Likewise, a single account in Latin America will allow you to earn commissions in 9 or 10 Latin American programs. TradeDoubler's Brazil program requires that you sign up separately for the new affiliate program. However, by signing up for each program you will have more granular reporting in the TradeDoubler dashboard.

Can GeoRiot help me get accounts for the other countries?

While GeoRiot can give you tips and provide resources to become active with the international affiliate programs, we cannot personally get you into the programs. You will still need to apply and be accepted.

Does GeoRiot work with banner ads?

Yes, banners can also use the GeoRiot service. This is simply done by GeoRiot encoding the landing page of the banner ad and replacing the link in the HTML for the banner ad with your new GeoRiot encoded link.

Does the GeoRiot service work on the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad?

Yes, both within the Safari app as well as from within apps.

Does the GeoRiot service work within iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad apps?

Yes, the GeoRiot service works within apps. However, it's important to note that when using any affiliate link in an iOS app (GeoRiot links included) an extra step is recommended to optimize the user experience for the app. We will happy to work with your developers to implement this.

Does the GeoRiot service work with links to apps in the App Store?

Absolutely. GeoRiot's translation and geotargeting services work for not only apps and Mac apps but also music, TV, movies, podcasts and audiobooks.

What type of reporting does GeoRiot provide?

The GeoRiot reporting engine provides click metrics for your traffic source(s), or app(s), segmented by geography in near real time.

Who pays my commissions?

You will continue to receive your commission checks from the affiliate network(s).

Will GeoRiot send me checks?

No, you will continue to receive your commission checks from the affiliate networks (LinkShare, LinkShare Japan, TradeDoubler and/or DGM) where you are currently active and have generated above then the minimum threshold. GeoRiot will never send you a check or a bill.

What does it cost to use GeoRiot?

There are no up front costs associated with using the GeoRiot service. The service's compensation is based on "click sharing". Click sharing is the seamless process of rerouting a small percentage of clicks with GeoRiot's affiliate code instead of the client's. GeoRiot is committed to ensuring partners are maximizing their affiliate commissions while using the service, and as a result we have an extensive list of rules dictating when and how click sharing will occur. What is a click share requirement?

Click sharing helps GeoRiot recoup costs incurred by offering the service. It is the seamless process of rerouting a small percentage of clicks with GeoRiot's affiliate code instead of the client's. GeoRiot is committed to ensuring partners are maximizing their affiliate commissions while using the service, and as a result we have an extensive list of rules dictating when and how click sharing will occur. Will GeoRiot ever use clicks from a country that I already have an account with toward my click share requirement?

GeoRiot will never use clicks from your base country (the country from which the landing page is built) to meet your click share. Also, during your trial period, the GeoRiot service will never use clicks from countries you support to meet your click share. After your trial period has expired GeoRiot will first use clicks from countries you don't support. If the click share requirement is not met with those countries then the service will randomly use clicks from your supported countries (but never your base country) until the target rate has been met.
